Day 8: March 31, 2016
What a beautiful place this is, we love Switzerland.
We woke up at our hotel with a view of high mountains, a gorgeous lake right on our doorstep and bright sunshine.
After breakfast we visited the little town of Lucerne for a true taste of Switzerland. We first payed our respects to the Löwendenkmal (Lion Monument), the sad monument of a dying lion dedicated to the Swiss Guards who died defending King Louis XIV and Marie Antoinette in Paris in 1792. We then walked across the Chapel Bridge, Lucerne’s most famous sights and saw at the bridge walls, decorated with murals that recreate the 14th-century originals destroyed in a fire. We then had free time to wander through the maze of narrow, winding streets of the old town. We had free time for lunch and stocked up on Swiss chocolate.
In the afternoon we had so much fun! We went up to the top of Mount Titlis (10623 feet) in an exiting ride by cable car and rotating gondola. The views across the Alps were breathtaking.
Halfway up we stopped at the snow park to try out the snow toys. The snow tubing was so much fun!! Then we took the cable car to the very top (10.000 feet!), where we walked through the fascinating glacier cave. Most of us were brave enough to so the Titlis Cliff Walk, crossing a pedestrian suspension bridge over a steep cliff and the highest elevation suspension bridge in Europe! It was very windy up there which added to the excitement!
In the evening we Swiss cheese fondue at the hotel.
