Mr. McLaughlin's Germany, Switzerland & Italy

March 24, 2016  -  April 2, 2016

We had a great and emotional day in Munich. We started with a guided city sightseeing tour with our local guide Arnoud. He showed us Munich's most famous sights including the huge Nymphenberg Palace, the BMW headquarters (we got to sit in some very fancy cars) and the Olympiapark (the venue for the 1972 Olympic Games). We ended the guided tour in Marienplatz where we watched the famous carillon and had some free time for lunch and to explore on our own. Some of us climbed the high bell tower of St. Peter's church and some of us caught part of the Easter Mass at the Frauenkirche Cathedral, famous for its twin onion-bulb towers (this was the former pastoral church of Pope Benedict). In the afternoon we learned more about the a very sad and dark part of German history during our visit to the former concentration camp of Dachau. Dinner was at a typically German restaurant, we had Bratwurst, Sauerkraut and Brezel followed by Apfelstrudel. We are excited to drive on to Austria and then to Italy tomorrow!
