Mr. McLaughlin's Germany, Switzerland & Italy

Auf Wiedersehen, Germany! Servus, Austria! We left Munich and crossed over the border to Austria while humming along to The Sound of Music, Mozart and Falco. We stopped in the Tyrolean capital Innsbruck for a short walking tour and strolled through the beautiful old town surrounded by steep mountains. We saw the famous Goldene Dachl, the Little Golden Roof built by the Hapsburg emperor Maximilian (another Maximilian!), his royal palace and his church. Of course we had to do the typical Austrian thing of having coffee and cake (more cake!) in one of the traditional coffee houses. Most of us chose apple strudel or Sachertorte and tried Almdler, the local lemonade. Then we drove on and crossed the border into Italy! We stopped for lunch along the motorway and instantly loved Italian food! For the rest of the journey we turned out bus into a party bus and had a great time singing along to all our favourite songs. Our hotel for the next two nights is situated in the Adriatic seaside resort of Lido di Jesolo and it’s only a two minute walk to the long sandy beach. Those crazy enough actually jumped into the Mediterranean for a quick swim while locals in winter coats and gloves stared on in disbelief!! It was so much fun, though, and the hot shower afterwards quickly warmed us up again. Tonight we are having dinner at the hotel and are looking forward to seeing the magical floating city of Venice tomorrow.
