Day 3: March 26, 2016
This morning we set off for Southern Bavaria to visit one of Germany's most famous castles, the breathtaking Neuschwanstein Castle, which was the model for Disney's Cinderella castle. It was commissioned by the eccentric King Ludwig II in the 19th century as a homage to the famous composer Richard Wagner. It was a long walk up but once we got to the top we could see why it is the most photographed building in all of Germany. The hike up to it usually takes around 40 minutes, but we were so excited to see it we did it in less than 20! The view over the lake was just awesome, and the sun was shining on us all day. After a guided tour through the fairytale castle we got treated to some wonderful Brezel by Mr. McLaughlin before getting back on the bus to drive to Munich, the capital of the Bavarian region.
In Munich we saw the impressive new town hall before dinner in a local downtown restaurant (which was delicious). After dinner we had time to quickly look into the famous Hofbräuhaus and check out the Hard Rock Cafe. We can't wait to see more of Munich in our guided sightseeing tour tomorrow.
