Day 1 Aloha Honolulu
Hotel check-in after 4pm
Dinner
Details: Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve visit
One of the more popular recreational swimming, snorkeling, and picnicking areas on Oa'hu. This is the best protected cove for scuba diving or snorkeling with a diverse population of marine life and large, rich coral reef. There is a large sandy beach and several hiking trials along the coastline.
Day 2 Honolulu
Breakfast
Details: Circle Island Tour
Relax in air-conditioned comfort as you’re chauffeured to Oahu’s prettiest sights. Look across clear blue water to Waikiki from the Diamond Head Lookout (the volcanic crater is home to the FAA, which directs airplanes from here), and then dream of a opulent future in paradise as you wind through the Kahala district, where the streets are lined with celebrity’s homes and other multimillion-dollar mansions. Sandy Beach may be beautiful, but its strong tide also makes it Hawaii’s number one spot for accidents. See more water action at the Halona Blowhole; the surf here is forced through a lava tube, sometimes spurting water up to 60 feet in the air.
Details: Dole Plantation visit
All aboard for two miles of pineapple fun! This fully narrated, twenty-minute train tour is an experience for the whole family. You’ll learn the story of pineapple in Hawai‘i, hear how James Drummond Dole founded his world-famous agricultural empire where Dole Plantation stands today, and travel through the stunning scenery of the island’s famous North Shore.
Details: Diamond Head hike
Make your way up a steep gravelly trail, through a small tunnel and up a narrow spiral staircase to the observation platform on the top of the volcanic cinder cone known as Diamond Head for a breathtaking view of the turquoise waters, pristine white beaches and lush green countryside of O’ahu.
Details: Dinner at Kapiolani Park
Enjoy a catered sunset dinner at breathtaking Kapiolani Park.
Day 3 First day of festival performances
Breakfast
Dinner
Details: Pearl Harbor visit
When Japanese planes bombed Pearl Harbor in 1941, the enormous U.S.S. Arizona sunk completely within nine minutes. With a licensed local guide, see the battleship, still beneath the water, and the memorial built to honor those who died in the attack. Though currently serene, the area recently buzzed with activity when scenes from “Pearl Harbor” were filmed here in the spring of 2000.
Details: Festival performances
Please note performances will take place either on Friday or Saturday. Each ensemble will have 30-35 minutes on stage. A panel of three adjudicators will provide written and recorded feedback for each performance. Following your performance, a select adjudicator will conduct a clinic on stage with your group, providing valuable feedback and reinforcement for your classroom teachings. Groups will also have the opportunity to participate as an audience for other groups competing – giving your ensemble exposure to their peers.
Day 4 Continue festival performances
